🩸Karnataka Makes Period Leave a Legal Right

In a first for India, the Karnataka government has passed the Menstrual Leave Policy 2025, granting one paid day off each month—up to 12 days a year—for all women in both government and private sectors. The move recognises the physical and emotional challenges many women face during menstruation, aiming to build healthier, more inclusive workplaces.

While hailed as a progressive step toward gender-sensitive policy, some critics worry it might unintentionally reinforce stereotypes about women’s capabilities or strain smaller firms. Still, Karnataka’s decision sets a bold precedent that could inspire other states—and spark a wider national conversation on workplace well-being and women’s health.
